Multimodal cargo transportation is one of the methods of international transportation, which allows to deliver goods over long distances to any country in the world using two or more modes of transport under one contract. This type of delivery is also in demand in situations where there is no direct road connection between the point of departure and the destination (for example, countries are separated by water).
Advantages of transportation
This type is considered particularly effective because it uses the advantages of different vehicles and minimizes disadvantages.
Multimodal transportation is used in a number of cases:
- there is no direct communication between the point of departure and the destination;
- delivery directly is not suitable due to long deadlines;
- direct delivery by one transport is expensive, and mixed delivery reduces costs and time costs.
- some destinations are limited to delivery by only one transport due to the peculiarities of the route. The combination of different modes of transportation allows you to reduce the cost of the service. In cooperation with professional logisticians, they achieve a reduction in terms.
Methods of multimodal cargo transportation
In multimodal cargo transportation, our company uses the following types of transport:
- Automobile – suitable for the delivery of small and medium-sized shipments of various goods (including dangerous and perishable), including to hard-to-reach places and “door to door”. This is the fastest option that is suitable for the delivery of small and perishable goods;
- Rail – usually successfully used for transporting large shipments to reduce the cost of delivery services. It is in demand for the transportation of industrial raw materials, agricultural products, wood, allows you to deliver bulk cargo and other goods by trains in containers, convenient in any season and time of day, does not depend on climatic and weather conditions, suitable for general cargo;
- Sea (river) – water vessels are rarely used as the only type of delivery, they are included in combined shipments. This is a relatively inexpensive way to transport large cargo shipments in conditions when there is a waterway between the point of departure and the destination country and the time of receipt of an international cargo shipment does not play a big role (as a rule, it is combined with delivery by car or rail). The cost of the service depends on the shipping line and the volume of the goods;
- Avia – is the most expensive and fastest method used for high-speed international air cargo delivery to anywhere in the world. Aviation is attracted when delivering small-sized and perishable goods.
Thanks to such deliveries, the disadvantages of transportation are reduced only by aviation, sea vessels, cars and railway wagons. Our specialists select the optimal solution for each stage, depending on the wishes of the client and the characteristics of the cargo.
The combination of vehicles allows you to increase speed and reduce costs, while maintaining the safety of the cargo. In the process of cargo transportation, different types of transport are used alternately to lay the most economical and fastest route in terms of time. When developing, the geography of departure and arrival points is taken into account.
